I have reached the maturity of my lease and I have some questions about my security deposit and final letter. Your security deposit will automatically be applied to any outstanding balance at lease maturity. Any remaining amount will be refunded to you in approximately 3 to 4 weeks following account termination. The final letter lists any outstanding balances or extra charges. Here is an explanation of some of the typical charges: DISPOSITION FEE This is a fee charged on lease accounts initiated before January 5, 1999. It covers actual disposition costs, including:
EXCESS MILEAGE Excess mileage fees are calculated based on the mileage limit and cost per excess mile as indicated on the original lease agreement. This fee is non-negotiable. EXCESS WEAR AND USE These charges are determined by an outside inspection company contracted by Mitsubishi to inspect at or before lease maturity. These charges are based on a detailed inspection and widely held industry standard for repairs. You may opt to have any repairs completed at your own cost prior to the return of the vehicle, or you may return the vehicle unrepaired and pay the assessed excess wear and use charges. LATE FEE These fees may be waived if you can provide proof (i.e., cancelled check copy or mail receipt) that your payments were received on or before the date after which late charges are assessed. PAYMENTS DUE Payments continue to accrue on the agreement even if you have returned your vehicle until Mitsubishi receives an odometer statement from an authorized Mitsubishi dealer. This is a non-negotiable charge. Please be sure to obtain a copy of the odometer statement for your records. In addition, take a moment to notify Mitsubishi at 1-866-876-3018. PROPERTY TAX Certain states assess personal property taxes on motor vehicles. Since Mitsubishi owns or holds the lien on your vehicle, we are billed directly by the state for payment of property tax. Then, as per your lease agreement, the fees are passed on to the customer for reimbursement. If the vehicle is returned before your state's annual or semi-annual property tax billing date, Mitsubishi will assess an estimated amount due. Please be advised that if we have under-estimated this amount, you will be billed at a later date for the remainder. Likewise, if we have over-estimated the amount, you will be refunded the overage.
